Associate Professor Peter J. Mucha wins NSF Career Award
July 10, 2007
UNC-Chapel Hill Press Release
Peter J. Mucha, Department of Mathematics & Institute for Advanced Materials, began the fiscal year on a high note: On July 1 he was promoted to Associate Professor and received a National Science Foundation (NSF) Faculty Early Career Development (Career) Award. The latter provides five years of support for Mucha's research group, including efficient model computations of fluid phenomena in suspensions and for various applications at small scales. The award also supports continuing research experiences for undergraduates working with Mucha in the broad area of network science, and ongoing development of a two-semester "BioCalculus" sequence aimed at biology students and as a new option for other students taking one or two semesters of regular calculus. The NSF Career Award is one of the highest honors given by NSF to young university faculty in science and engineering, and is intended to advance the development of their research and careers.
