Joe DeSimone received a North Carolina Award, the state's highest civilian honor, at a celebration in Raleigh this week. According to Governor Perdue, "The award celebrates creativity and innovation, two values which sustain our economy, our culture and our people, [and is] bestowed upon individuals whose contributions to our state are enduring and significant." Joe DeSimone is Chancellor's Eminent Professor of Chemistry at UNC-CH; William R. Kenan, Jr. Distinguished Professor of Chemical Engineering at NCSU, Director of IAM and the Institute for Nanomedicine, a founder of Liquidia Technologies, and holder of numerous awards, including the 2008 Lemelson-MIT Prize and an NIH Pioneer Award.
